What Are Your Favourite Things About Toronto?
Diary Note, May 2012: It’s TBEX time! The travel blogging community and the travel industry are anxiously awaiting the chance to meet face to face at the end of May and you couldn’t ask for a better host community than Toronto. Here are 5 things I love about this buzzing metropolis (and three that I don’t).
Zen Kitchen - The Venue
A sign of an excellent restaurant is when it doesn’t have any hyphenation. You’re not describing a good Italian restaurant or a good Chinese restaurant – it’s just good, good food.
This is absolutely the case with Zen Kitchen. It’s vegan, it does gluten free, raw, and healthy. But it’s just damn good food!
Zen Kitchen has a passion for local ingredients and working with local producers and, when the chef visited our table to chat, we learned that they even make their own preserves every summer. That’s dedicated!
Tulip Fest is Ottawa's most beautiful event
May is a special month in my hometown of Ottawa. The month kicks off with several weeks of celebrations and fun with the Tulip Festival, culminates with the largest race weekend in North America, and has tons of special events sprinkled throughout.
An Historical Friendship Lives On
Tulip Fest is more than beautiful weather and beautiful tulips. Tulip Fest celebrates Canada’s role in liberating the Dutch in World War II and is a symbol of ongoing friendship between the two nations.
Ottawa was also the host community of the exiled Dutch Royal family during the war, and Princess Margriet was born to Princess Juliana in the Ottawa Civic Hospital.
As a sign of gratitude and appreciation, Princess Juliana presented Ottawa with 100,000 tulip bulbs in 1945 and a lasting tradition and celebration were born.
Planning a guys' getaway or father's day trip? You are going to LOVE Alabama!
Exploring Alabama's Great Outdoors
There’s something about a change of season that really inspires me to plan new trips and never is this truer than in spring. Maybe it’s the long months of harsh winter that make me think I’ll never make it through to warmer pastures, but when I first see the budding trees and blooming flowers, I’m itching to get outside, explore nature, and have some fun!
This year, I’m trying to get creative and think of new and exciting things I can do for Father’s Day. It’s a great chance to bond with family members – not only your dad, but father-in-law, uncles, grandfathers, and more. It’s also a chance to explore new places and types of travel. Who knows how much fun you can have when you try something new and travel with dad!
Union Local 613 brings Southern-inspired cuisine to Ottawa
Union Local 613- The Venue
Union Local 613 is part of a lively restaurant scene renovation in the heart of Ottawa’s Centretown that I've been wanting to check out for quite some time. It seems everyone is talking about this place! Its upbeat atmosphere has a fun feel and the combination of booths, tables, and a bit of communal seating has a laid back, relaxing vibe.
