It's time to make memories, not mountains of clutter

Did I ever tell you about the first time Ryan and I saw a Cirque du Soleil performance? We were in the 4th row to see “KÀ” in Las Vegas and the entire experience was nothing short of spectacular from beginning to end. We were so enthralled with the performance that we easily forgot that it WAS a performance. During the middle of one particularly daring trapeze act, I was so exhilarated and terrified that I squealed aloud, convinced that the artist was going to fall!
Our fantastically great tickets were all thanks to a generous Christmas treat of gift certificates to a ticket booking office. Hey, this was a while ago - ticket offices used to be a big thing! The gift not only allowed us to boldly pick an activity we normally would have dismissed due to its higher price point - we could also enjoy it in style, with terrific seats. And it meshed perfectly with our philosophy to celebrate holidays and special occasions with gifts that create memories, not clutter.
I’ve since realized that it’s easy to say you want to give experiences, not objects. But so often people are stumped about what exactly ‘giving an experience’ means. Let’s face it - sometimes “experience” doesn’t exactly mean something that the recipient REALLY wants. Coupons for car washes and back rubs, anyone? And can anything really replicate the feeling of opening a beautifully wrapped gift, tingling with anticipation about what could be inside?
You know what? Tinggly can. Nobody knows the art of gorgeous travel experience gifts better. Here are three reasons why I love Tinggly.
The Flexibility of a Generous Timeline
Tinggly experience boxes are reasonably priced gift vouchers that allow the recipients to choose a travel experience from a list of hundreds of possible activities and excursions around the world. Prices range from 69 Euros to 299 Euros and represent over 500 different experiences in over 100 countries. My head spins just imagining all the different cultures, regions, sounds, sights, tastes, and thrills that this represents. I love pouring over Tinggly's list of possible activities in each box - which is perfect for a passionate planner like myself.
When Ryan and I spent two weeks exploring the National Parks of the American Southwest, I started planning in advance. Make that WELL in advance! I was too excited not to start reading and planning! I love research, so it’s time well spent for me. And in the case of this particular trip, it was especially prudent. If you dream of hiking to the bottom Grand Canyon National Park, note that accommodations there can fill up 13 months in advance. Yikes! But I digress...
Looking back on the experience, I wish we had a gift like Tinggly in our back pocket. The gift packages have a whopping 5-year validity term. That’s a dream for a gal like me who loves to plan well in advance! And it’s a wonderfully generous time period for a newly engaged couple who is dreaming of a wedding and honeymoon in a few years or a freshly retired grandparent who’s just starting to dream of far flung adventures.
I also love the practicality of it all. Sometimes you can plan a dream trip and then circumstances change and you’re force to pivot and delay your bookings by a few months or even a few years. It’s so comforting to know that there’s just a long term attached to Tinggly packages.
(And if you or your potential gift recipient is dreaming of exploring the American Southwest like we did, rest assured that Tinggly's Premium Collection gift box contains several options for that region.)
Versatility Meets Personality
I love that Tinggly is so much more personal and intimate than just handing over a gift certificate to a travel center. You can choose from something that’s affordable and suitable for all occasions, like the "Key to Europe” gift box, all the way up to something that’s very in tune with the recipient's specific interests and passions. I am intrigued - and TERRIFIED - of a 199 Euro package for bungee jumping.
Family, if you’re reading this - this is so not the package for a wimpy gal like me! But how cool is it that there's something specifically designed for adrenaline junkies? I’m so impressed that every gift box includes locations and experiences all around the world. Case in point: The bungee package includes the option to enjoy a bungee experience at Victoria Falls gorge - an experience we enjoyed in person recently as we sipped coffee while watching the participants embrace adventure.
Speaking of coffee….I am mightily intrigued by Tinggly’s “Key To Europe” kit, which allows recipients the choice of over 200 experiences in over 40 countries. This is more my speed! It includes an incredible selection of foodie experiences, from a secret food tour in Berlin (hmm….. Could it be similar to the awesome Berlin food tour we did?), pizza making classes in Rome, a four course dinner cruise in Amsterdam, and a wine tour in Barcelona. Yes, please! (But daredevils take note: There’s plenty of adventure options in this package too, including bungee fun!)
Great Value, Wrapped in Pretty Packages
I especially appreciate the value in each gift package and that the variety of experiences reflect great bang for your buck in each location, regardless of currency. For instance, in the “Best In The World” gift (99 Euros), there’s an option for an overnight boat trip in Thailand, which includes accommodations, meals, and activities. When you consider the exchange rate of the Thai bhat, this is a pretty good deal indeed. In the same package, you can also opt for half a day of whale watching in Canada, a few hours of dinner cruise fun in Prague, or even a very short helicopter ride over Las Vegas’ Hoover Dam.
In every case, you can read exactly what is included so you can discern for yourself if you judge it to be the best experience for you and Tinggly also very helpfully lists what might not be included (like municipal hotel taxes) so there are no unhappy surprises on site.
There’s also huge value in being able to choose between sending your gift instantly through an e-certificate (perfect for your digital nomad pals or a last minute birthday you nearly forgot) or in a beautiful gift box delivered by DHL in two days. Or, alternatively, you can print out the gift certificate and present it yourself - perhaps wrapped up as part of a travel themed Christmas stocking?
Tinggly is all about giving stories, not stuff - a philosophy I wholeheartedly agree with. What kind of travel story do you want to experience next?
