Like many travelers, taking care of myself is rarely a high priority. Constantly being on the road, catching early morning trains and late night buses, rarely lends itself to looking good, no matter how much fun the adventures might be. But I live in Ottawa, a government town, and important meetings can come up at any time. It was a situation just like this that brought me to Robbie and George at Salon Niccio for the first time. I had recently finished one contract and was enjoying some downtime when the chance for a new position fell into my lap. It was a wonderful opportunity, but it required a new look – and fast! I needed to look polished and professional and ready to stand in front of a crowd at a minute’s notice. But I also needed a look that even a harried traveler like myself could handle. Ottawa's Blues FestNothing says summer heat like outdoor concerts. This pic is from Ottawa Bluesfest, one of Canada’s largest outdoor music festivals and ranked as one of North America’s most important music events. Here we see Huey Lewis and the News take the stage, playing before 50,000+ fans.
For those of you in Ottawa, or for those that were planning a visit, now would be a good time to do so as Bluesfest is currently on! Tonight's main acts? Fitz and the Tantrums, and the Dixie Chicks. Cold Vines, Warm Hearts - Ottawa has Wine at Smokie Ridge VineyardPaul and Debbie LeBlanc's passion for Smokie Ridge Vineyard is obvious as soon as you meet them. Their vision, their enthusiasm, and their dedication is inspiring - but what on earth are they doing growing grapes and making wine in Ottawa of all places?
Everyone needs to explore to Canada's capital!I’m a huge advocate of getting to know and explore your own hometown. But sometimes even I need to take my own advice! With this in mind, May is Ottawa Month, here at TurnipSeed Travel! This short post will be followed all month with other posts about things to do in, and around Ottawa, Canada. Jane’s Walk 101 This weekend, we were fortunate to take part in the Jane’s Walk Tours. The Jane’s Walks are a celebration of the life and work of Jane Jacobs, an urbanist and activist who didn’t let a lack of formal training stop her from revolutionizing how we see urban spaces and ecosystems. This annual free festival of walking tours helps put residents back in touch with their neighbourhood, their city, and appreciate the rich history and architecture all around us. |
