Where do you find the best Greek yogurt in Athens? At one very special place - the last dairy bar in Athens. Learn how you can easily visit Athens' last dairy bar all on your own.
Have you ever tried a food you think you know so well, and suddenly something happens and you'll never look at it the same way again? That's what it was like when I tried Greek yogurt in Greece. The snowy yogurt was so thick that it nearly held its shape as it was cut and plated on a classic white saucer, with honey and fresh walnuts crowding the top and spilling over to the sides. Like nearly all yogurt in Greece, it was made from sheep's milk - and I'm sure the shop owner would say that there was a lot of love in the mix too, for I was visiting the Stani Milk Shop, the last dairy bar in all of central Athens. And as far as I'm concerned, it's the best Greek yogurt in Athens
We discovered the Fjällträdgård, Sweden's Arctic Garden and the northern most botanical garden in the world. With busy bees, periwinkle blooms, and delicate curved branches arching over a river, the Fjällträdgård (or Mountain Botanical Garden) of Jokkmokk, in Swedish Lapland, wouldn't look out of place if it were situated thousands of miles to the south. Instead, this Arctic Garden has the distinction of being one of the northern most (if not THE northern most) botanical gardens in the world. It's home to plants and flowers often found only in the country's far north and the tundra. Here's what we loved about our visit.

Updated for 2022! Prague's best beer tour comes with Czech tapas and wine? Yes! And it's perfect for the non-beer drinker.
The Czech Republic is home to Pilsner, beer halls, brew pubs, and huge, frothy mugs of your favourite suds for less than a dollar. But none of this makes much of an impression on me. I'm just not a beer drinker. My beer aversion is one of several annoying travel quirks that occasionally challenge our social lives and our budgets. I'm the gal always requesting a fancy mineral water at ten times the price of a regular bottle of beer! So why join in on Prague's best beer tour? When in Rome, er.... Prague..... you do as the locals do!
When Ryan and I had the opportunity to hang out with the team from Urban Adventures and be a part of the Prague Beer and Czech Tapas tour, I knew it would be a neat way to see the city. And I was confident that Ryan would love it. But me? I hardly suspected that a wine and lemonade loving girl like myself would have such a fun night! (Update: Sadly, Urban Adventures no longer operates in Prague but you can use this post to create a DIY tour). Here's where we explored, what we sampled, and how we fell for the different flavors of Prague. Inside our sentimental visit in a place of peace and reflection. Here's how you can visit St Symphorien Military Cemetery, Belgium. (Updated 2022).
It's difficult to drive down a road in rural Belgium without encountering one of the subtle green signs of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Belgium suffered terribly during the First World War, as did the millions of troops from around the world who fought in the water logged trenches. But as I was to learn, visiting a war cemetery is not just an experience of sadness but also one of inspiration. If you're interested in history, you'll be keen to learn how to visit St Symphorien Military Cemetery, Belgium.
Reykjavik is a UNESCO City of Literature.. and it's no "mystery" why people love it. Check out Iceland's best bookstores and see why.
An empty yacht sits in Reykjavik's harbor. There's no trace of its seven passengers. Have they met with misadventure at sea - or a murderous welcome in Iceland?
At first glance, this horrible tragedy is so haunting that even devoted travelers might be tempted to think twice about their trip. But, rest assured, Iceland is an incredibly safe country - and also the perfect setting for some of the best books and bookstores in the world. In this case, the mysterious boat and vanished passengers rest not in Reykjavik but rather in the imagination of renowned Icelandic author Yrsa Sigurðardóttir. Her compelling novel The Silence Of The Sea has earned rave reviews and routinely flies off the shelves at Iceland's best bookstores. And while you're likely very relieved that you can't experience the plots of her books first hand, you can indulge your love of great books and writing in Iceland. This is the writing capital of the world, with 1 in 10 citizens publishing a book in their lifetime. Reykjavik has even been awarded the prestigious designation of being a UNESCO City of Literature. Rest assured, Iceland is an incredibly safe country - and also the perfect setting for some of the best books and bookstores in the world, often discovered by visitors on an Iceland tour. So whether your tastes run towards murder mysteries or economic theory or modern poetry, Iceland is THE travel destination for readers and writers. All roads really DO lead to - and from- Rome. If you're interested in biking the Appian Way in Rome, this post is for you.
Julius Ceasar, Saint Peter, Spartacus, and now the team from Turnipseed Travel.... there's been more than a few legends who've walked, rode, and peddled their way down the Appian Way. This ancient highway, nearly 400 miles of engineering marvel, connected Rome with southern Italy and the sea, forming a critical trade and communications link with Greece and Egypt. Considered the world's first super highway, everyone who was anyone traveled along the Appian Way, along with over two thousand years of worth of anonymous citizens too. We were happy to start our first day in Italy by following in their footsteps and biking the Appian Way in Rome.
The best things to do in Bern, Switzerland, include bears by the river and epic chess battles. Check out all the fun and frivolity we found in the Swiss capital! Updated in 2022.
Is Switzerland a serious travel destination? The images of the stoic Swiss banker or the studious clock maker certainly don't suggest a fun and frivolous destination. But the Swiss capital of Bern is a city of charm, whimsy, and wry good humor - and I've had more fun here than just about any other spot. Whether it's discovering a cheeky giant flower arrangement designed to mimic a Christmas tree (above) or a jaunty frolic with make-believe bears, Bern has amusement and diversions for every traveller. These are some of my favourite things to do in Bern, Switzerland.
Ljubljana's Beekeeping Trail gives you a bee's eye view of one of Europe's loveliest cities. And it's the perfect chance to discover the Ljubljana Botanical Garden.
Ljubljana is a sweet travel destination, and not just because it's so lovely to look at and so pleasant to chat with the warm local residents. No, in this case Ljubljana is literally sweet, for it is a city obsessed with honey!
Slovenian honey, coming from the beloved Carniolan honey bee, is a product of protected geographic indication and Slovenians take their honey so seriously that they are the only European country which has special legal protection for their bees. Beekeeping and bee protection has a long, passionate history in Ljubljana, one that we were able to trace step by step on a guided walk of the Beekeeping Trail. |
