Hilo, Big Island, HawaiiThis doesn't look like a typical beach in Hawaii. After all, where is the golden sand, the swaying palm tree? But if you look more closely, you'll see that this dark rock is actually hardened lava, making it a very typical Hawaiian beach indeed! This picture was taken in Hilo, on the Big Island, and the rugged rocks of the shore made for excellent hunting ground for one of my favourite travel souvenirs: beach glass!

Niagara FallsThere's nothing like the majesty of Niagara Falls! Can you just barely make out the people viewing the falls in the foreground? It lends perspective to the incredible expanse of this natural wonder. While much of Niagara Falls (Canada) has been overwhelmed by tourist attractions, the falls remain beautiful, powerful, and unrelenting.
Travel to Wolfe Island and you'll see that it is one of the prettiest spots in the Thousand Islands.Picturesque Wolfe Island sits at the entrance of the St Lawrence River and is easily accessible by a free ferry from neighbouring Kingston, Ontario. When you travel to Wolfe Island, you'll find that it's lovely any time of year, but in summer it is especially nice. Budget minded travelers will appreciate the scenic walks along the water, the safe, straight roads perfect for biking, the delightful bakery and nearby pubs and cafes. Best of all, there are plenty of unique photography opportunities!
Hawaiian waves.Posing for the perfect ocean picture is sometimes more difficult than expected. You want to show that you're happy, enjoying the calming waters.
Wave? What wave? There aren't any wav......... Lake SuperiorLake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes, is massive. It's more a fresh water ocean than a lake. It has been loved, awed, and respected for over a thousand years. It has been immortalized in legend, in poetry, and in song, and has many personalities.
Storms can roll across out of nowehere, especially in the fall. The two photos below were taken about 20 kms south of Lake Superior Provincial park in Northern Ontario. In October. 6 hours apart. From calm and beautiful to surging water and waves 6 feet high. The waves that day were up to 15 feet high on other parts of the bay. Just an awe inspiring lake. Algonquin Provincial ParkWhen we travel, we're always drawn to the water. Beaches, ocean, lakes, rivers, pools, snorkeling, camping, scenic views, even boats (at least for Ryan - Vanessa can't handle them!). There's nothing like discovering a new body of water to feel relaxed and restored.
In honor of our liquid love, we're sharing a picture a day in September that celebrates water - from some of the most famous bodies of water in the world, to relatively unknown lakes and pools we've stumbled across along the way. To start off, here's a photo we took yesterday in Algonquin Provincial Park. My travel wardrobe is getting a "top"makeover.
When you're traveling the carry-on only way, you really need to make smart choices. But just as important is making happy choices, choosing clothing that you love, look good in, feel good in. This is especially true of shirts, as no other piece of clothing will be featured so much in your photographs. If I'm going to be rotating between the same 3 or 4 shirts on a month long trip, I better love them!
I knew Tilley Endurable shirts were a great choice for me because they wash and dry with zero fuss in a hotel room, they're lightweight and breathable, and many of them even have sneaky security pockets! I love that they are designed for real bodies and shapes and that there are a ton of colors, designs, and fabrics to choose from. I know I'll be traveling with some of their classic short sleeve, button down shirts, so I wanted to give two different types of shirts a try and see how things worked when I mixed things up! |
